Web Design Adelaide
1) Study web design that doesn't work
Our web site design company uses this as the first port of call when creating a new web site.
This is a great tip, if you study what does not work in the world of web site design, you can quickly decide what techniques to avoid. Mystery meat for example is a term used for website design companies who like to make you guess what button you are pressing. Sound ridiculous? Here's an example or two:

2) Put web Design Elements Where Visitors Expect Them
Some web site design services will use your web site as a canvas for their unique creation, dont let them!
There are now very defined things that visitors expect on your web site, don't disappoint them. Items like company logo in top left, menu system on the left, and contact details easily available are common items expected of visitors to your business web site. If you want to get creative, paint something, your business web site is there to attract customers to your business, its a tool, not an extension of your personality.
3) Don't Tell Visitors How Wonderful you are
Visitors are on your business web site for one reason, to satisfy a need! It is doubtful informing them that you are a wonderful company, with wonderful virtues and values is going to satisfy that need.
WIFM as I am sure you all know stands for "What's in it for me" Let your visitor know how you you are going to satisfy their particular need, do it in as few a words as possible. Never use 10 words when 5 conveys the same message.
Avoid the urge to tell the world how brilliant you are, on the Internet they are just words. There is no trust, no bond with you and a potential client, so words are less than meaningless, they take up your visitors time and they will resent you for wasting even a few seconds of their life. So make sure your words have value whether its information or satisfying their need.
4) Using "welcome to" or "web site under construction" or using "click here" for a link
The above are mortal sins. It was trendy in the 90s to put "under construction" on web pages being worked on. This usually was a picture of a construction worker with yellow hat and road block. The real trendy people even animated it with flashing lights. Looking back, its so ridiculous. If your page is not ready, don't make it available to the public! Its not a hard game.
Using the old "welcome to" is just a waste of two valuable words with which the space could of been used to say something meaningful. "Click here" is just plain silly, visitors want to know where they are going to, click here is not very descriptive, and unless you want to get in the top 10 on google for "click here" then its pointless.
Put something like "Adelaide Web site Design" this tells the search engines what to expect and gives you much higher chance of getting listed for a relevant search term.
5) Fill in the title tags at the top of your business web page
Unless you fill in the title tags, then there is going to be no meaningful page title for people doing searches. The page title is the blue heading above the description when you do a search on google.
6) Don't use popup windows, or weird pluggins on your site
Anything that reduces your target audience is a bad thing. Popup windows are a menace and you will upset the very people that you are trying to attract.
