Business IT Support  & Computer Consulting  Business IT support Consultant

The boy who cried wolf!

Don't leave a message with their computer consultant along the lines of "please call me back its urgent" and then hang up, especially when the problem is not that urgent.

Generally urgent means that an entire office cannot work because of a problem. A problem that effects one person is rarely urgent unless of course its the person paying the bills.....

Communication in business is vitally important, the term "urgent" is often overused and will come back to bite if you ever do require support urgently.

While Your Here

This is a term most computer consulting businesses are familiar with.

Most computer consultants are fixers, they live to fix things and to help people which in itself is a very noble quality. They find it difficult to say no to a problem, no matter how trivial, often at the cost of a problem that's impact is far greater to the business.

The other problem is that the business owner / decision maker will call the support technician and ask how long a particular problem will take. The Computer consultant estimates fairly accurately for the job that has been requested.

While conducting onsite IT maintenance the technician gets 7 "while your here's" and 3 "by the ways" The owner then gets a bill for 4 hours over the original quote and rings up for a bill reduction......

Lose Interest In Your Own Question

This might seem odd, however some people seem to spontaneously feel the need to ask a question when they see I.T support staff passing by. "I've got this problem, but I can't remember what it is" is a very common phrase we here....

If you have a question, by all means ask it, but make sure its worthwhile and productive.
