Sometimes finding out what works is made easier when looking at what doesn't. What are the things David gets wrong? Confidence is normally an asset however when it is complimented with a lack of ability, it can have terrible consequences as David admirably demonstrates.

The next area that David fails is the way (without realising) he treats Dawn, the cleaning lady and others he deems lower than himself. Showing frustration and a lack of empathy means others find him shallow and unpleasant.
